The other day on All Things Considered, they were discussing how the mass of affordable housing is quickly moving east out of Los Angeles and into the Inland Empire. A map of the Inland Empire reveals that it “officially” starts around Ontario and extends quite a ways east into Banning and Idyllwild. That is far, folks.

Listen to part one of the three part series. It will almost bring tears to your eyes to listen to these tales of people who live in Victorville and drive to work in Los Angeles five days a week.

During the show I learned of people called “supercommuters.” These are people that drive at least 150 miles EVERY DAY to get to and from work.

And here I am complaining about my shitty little 66 mile a day drive. I shouldn’t say anything about my drive anymore – now I see I’m living the good life!
