What gets left behind in foreclosed homes? A lot. Photos, computers, clothes, rotting food, cremated remains…you name it.

The “trashout” business is booming. Companies are hired to go into foreclosed homes, clean them out completely, and haul everything away to landfills.

Here’s a video that makes it seem like a relatively easy and profitable job!

Coming to a Brookstone near you: The Cinco Urinal Shower

“WHAT KIND OF GUY THAT YOU ARE!”

I am generally not a fan of sticking things in peoples butts. So when it comes time to take Kate’s temperature, I usually let Tammy step in.

That has all changed upon my discovery of a cool new baby gadget – the Exergen Temporal Scanner.

It works on people of any age – not just babies.

You just take two, maybe three seconds to swipe it across your forehead, and bingo – instant temperature! I compared its accuracy to a regular mouth thermometer I’ve always used and the two were nearly identical every single time.

I picked it up for a mere $26 at Costco last night, and Amazon’s selling it too for a few bucks more.

WED’s involvement in the 1964 World’s Fair was good business for everyone involved. The four sponsoring pavilions (Ford, General Electric, Pepsi, and the state of Illinois) got to showcase state-of-the-art attractions delivered by Walt himself, and Disneyland received four new attractions at virtually no cost when the fair ended.

Back in 2001 imagineer Bruce Gordon looked into releasing the audio from those 1964 pavilions in a 4 CD box set. He unfortunately died that year and the uncompleted box set project appeared to have went with him.

In 2002 the whole she-bang popped up on Usenet and it continues to circulate to this day.

Well time has passed, legal hurdles with the licensing have been cleared, an official release is right around the corner.

It was supposed to come out this week, but it’s been delayed and Amazon is now showing a March 24th release date.

This officially sanctioned release includes a complete remastering of original recording sessions where needed and adds a fifth CD of bonus material from Progressland.

Outstanding!

Kate’s 12 month photos are up. There’s also a brief one-year retrospective if you missed anything last year.

This is probably the last you’ll see of these high-quality Kate photos for a while. Our awesome photographer, Tonya, is gettin’ out of the biz temporarily to have another baby.

It’s been a crazy 12 months!

What an exciting and un-fun weekend I had.

Thursday after work my car almost wouldn’t start. I drove it straight to the repair shop and $1200 later, it’s working again. I don’t exactly have that kind of money laying around, so I’m a little scared.

Friday Kate was barfing all over the place and not eating or drinking much of anything. We took her to the doctor Saturday morning who said her stomach sounded like it was working overtime, but “she’s alert and looks good so the worst is behind her.” So far so good.

Saturday we took Kate to Tammy’s parent’s house. While there, Tammy started to exhibit Kate-like symptoms. She barfed. She laid on the couch unable to move. Then I started to feel a little woozy.

I drove us home, but once we got off the freeway I started getting sweaty and dizzy and almost lost control of the car. I had to stop in a Sav-On parking lot where I barfed loudly and voluminously. Luckily it was raining so I didn’t feel too bad about the mess on the pavement, and we were only five minutes from home at that point so the drive wasn’t too hard.

Saturday night was absolute torture. I was throwing up from like 8pm until 4am. At one point I was craving Pepsi, so I stumbled downstairs to get one. I downed half of the can in one huge gulp. After 8 hours of non-stop barfing this Pepsi was the greatest thing I had ever tasted – so refreshing and delicious! 30 seconds later, I threw it all up. That didn’t stop me from immediately finishing the last half of the can, though. I managed to keep that half down.

Sunday Tammy and I were both completely useless and basically immobile, so her parents drove down to take care of Kate for the day. I spent the day in bed drifting in and out of a feverish sleep, but Tammy was starting to improve a little.

Meanwhile, Kate was starting to relapse. On the advice of a switchboard pediatric nurse, Tammy and her parents took Kate to the emergency room. Everything was fine at the ER – dehydration was their main concern – so they came back home a few hours later.

Monday my fever died and I ate a sandwich.

Oh, and our DSL modem died on Friday so we haven’t even had Internet at home.

Today I’m back at the office but feeling a little light-headed. I may go home early.

The stomach flu is not fun.

Kate turned 1 year old on Super Bowl Sunday. We had her party the day before at the Irvine Park Railroad, which is located within the monstrously huge Irvine Regional Park, California’s oldest county park.

About 40 people turned out for this gala event. Macaroni Grill handled the food and Sprinkles took care of the cupcakes. I baked Kate her own giant cupcake and she enjoyed shoving her fingers into the icing immensely.

On Sunday she said her first word – “Happy” – although we haven’t been able to get her to say it again.

Her one-year doctor’s appointment was on Monday (yesterday). Everything’s humming along according to schedule. She’s in the 65th percentile for weight and 85th for height. Did you know they’ve got a chickenpox vaccine now? I didn’t. But she got it!

I intend to shoot up Kate with every available vaccine to help strengthen the herd and counteract the effects of non-vaccinators everywhere. Thank you This American Life (episode 370)

Her doctor told us we should stop giving her formula (finally!) and start giving her whole milk. This pleases me greatly because 1- Formula is expensive, 2- I am so, so sick of cleaning bottles, and 3- I love milk and want Kate to love it too. Unfortunately this makes traveling a little tougher because we can’t just mix water with powdered formula anymore – we’ll have to start keeping ice packs and milk in the diaper bag.

Her doctor also said that her self-induced vomiting is not uncommon, and the best way for us to cure her is not to ignore her when she does it – but to actually get up and leave the room when her fingers first go into her mouth. She only does it three or four times a week, so this shouldn’t be too hard to do…

Anyway everything’s going according to plan. Kate’s super healthy! Whenever I get home from work she goes totally crazy, screaming and yelling and smiling and running all over the place! It is at this moment when her face is the most delicious, so I eat it.
